New Official US Trailer for Action Film ‘Pilgrimage’ with Jon Bernthal

Pilgrimage Trailer

"A powerful man does not become so without sin." RLJ Entertainment has unveiled a second trailer for the indie action thriller Pilgrimage, set in Ireland during the 13th century. The story follows a group of monks who must escort a sacred relic across the "Irish landscape fraught with peril". Starring Richard Armitage, Tom Holland, John Lynch, Stanley Weber, Lochlann O'Mearáin, Hugh O'Conor, Eric Godon, plus the badass Jon Bernthal as a character named "The Mute". We already posted the first official trailer for this earlier in the year, but I'm glad to see another one reminding us that this is finally coming out soon. They're obviously playing up Tom Holland from Spider-Man: Homecoming, but the entire cast looks great. ›››

Mesmerizing 4K Trailer for Doc ‘Awaken’ Produced by Terrence Malick

Awaken Documentary Trailer

Wow. This looks totally mesmerizing. An official trailer has debuted for a new documentary titled Awaken, a visual experience around the world. Awaken is the latest film from filmmaker Tom Lowe (of the time lapse film TimeScapes previously), and it's produced by Terrence Malick and Godfrey Reggio. For this film, Lowe spent five years with his camera team creating special camera rigs designed to capture the world like we've never seen it before - including adapting a gimbal to capture astrophotography timelapse at night from a helicopter in flight. The film explores "humanity's relationship with technology and with the natural world" and is a "celebration of the spirit of life, an exploration of the Earth, and an ode to the Cosmos." We don't know much about this, but I most definitely want to see it on the biggest, brightest screen possible. Enjoy. ›››

New ‘Fight Like a Girl’ Featurette for Charlize Theron’s ‘Atomic Blonde’

Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde

"Right from the beginning it was very clear the way I was going to fight… It was really intense." Focus has released a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette for Atomic Blonde, which hits theaters in a few more weeks. Charlize Theron stars as an undercover MI6 agent (and/or assassin) sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent. All of the trailers have promised some ass kicking action, and this featurette focuses on Theron's training process and her ability to deliver badass physical action and make it look real. The featurette includes interviews with Charlize Theron as well as director David Leitch, a stuntman who worked on co-directing John Wick (before he was uncredited) and is now directing Deadpool 2 next. I'm still excited to see this, let's hope it lives up to the hype and the action is as good as it seems here. ›››

"So you up to speed on what we need you to do?" Ken Jeong plays a man who loses everything in a high stakes celebrity death pool, including his home and his wife and his business. He realizes the only way to get everything back is to actually kill his celebrity - David Hasselhoff. The ensemble cast includes Jim Jeffries, Rhys Darby, Will Sasso, Jennifer Ikeda, Ron Funches, Colton Dunn, Dan Bakkedahl, along with David Hasselhoff himself. This looks as awful as it sounds, and is headed straight-to-DVD if anyone is interested. See below. ›››

From Edgar Wright to Lord & Miller – Why Hollywood Needs Auteurs

Lord & Miller

What a crazy few weeks it has been for Hollywood. As we all know, directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller were shockingly fired from Disney's still-untitled Han Solo project a few weeks ago. It was shocking because they were already several months into filming the new Star Wars Story movie, with only a couple of weeks remaining. Lucasfilm eventually announced that Ron Howard had been hired to replace them. Lord & Miller aren't the first directors to not work well within the studio system as of late. Jon Favreau, Edward Norton, Patty Jenkins and Edgar Wright have all faced similar problems in recent years. So, are auteur filmmakers doomed? Let's take a look at why studios like Disney & Marvel still need auteur filmmakers. ›››
