Definitely a cult movie! With strong acting, good story and twists and turns all over the place.
The story
As the title itself reveals, the story is taking place in the El Royale hotel, dividing literally Nevada and California. A few strangers arrive in the hotel, carrying their own (dark) secrets, and they all are looking for something “special”.
Acting
Filled with known
actors, Dakota Johnson, Jeff Bdridges, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, etc.
All the acting is naturally great, what we are used to. Plus with great
performances by the lovely Cynthia Erivo, singing and acting as a
natural star!
Effects
With the most tension at the end, the movie delivers for everybody: crime, thriller, suspense, horror, comedy and musical, all in one great peace of art!
Music
Listen to the OST – it´s great – especially the voice of Cynthia Erivo. The music of the 60s is just great and timeless!
Conclusion
Love this era (60s), where the movie takes place! Without the music, this movie would be half as great, and of course without the actors.
Usually I don´t like to compare, but somehow the movie reminded me of the movie “Identity” and the strong dialogue of a Tarantino movie – which in my opinion is great – on the other side the conversations could have been a bit shorter.
Some scenes were a bit confusing – which gives impulse to watch it again.
After the final credit I checked the director – Drew Goddard – if you can remember “The Cabin in the Woods”, and you´ll find out “something” in common between these two movies – at least I did!
Verdict
9/10 (great)
